The New Straits Times-Sept 19

Health Ministry today said cannabis oil can only be used for research and not as alternative medicine.

Its director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was because the ministry has yet to find any evidence to support the claim that it can be used as medicine.  “We can consider its usage for research purposes. So far, we have yet to find sufficient data to support it usage to treat ailments.

“For the time being, there’s no evidence that cannabis oil can be used as medicine.”

He said since it is classified as a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, no doctors have used such method to threat their patients.

“Within our medical fraternity, such method has never been used before.” he said at a press conference at the Health Ministry today.

Dr Noor Hisham’s comment came following calls to review the charges against a medical marijuana distributor, who has been sentenced to death for aiding patients with chronic diseases.

Muhammad Lukman, 29, was recently sentenced to death for possessing, processing and distributing medical marijuana (cannabis oil).
