Amid efforts to reduce the current account deficit, Indonesia aims to make the use of biodiesel blended fuels compulsory for all vehicles and heavy machinery from Sept. 1, Reuters reported on Wednesday, quoting Renewable Energy Director General Rida Mulyana. As interest rates in the US rise, countries with current account deficits that have relied on fixed income capital inflows are going to find it difficult, Michael Spencer, Asia Pacific chief economist at Deutsche Bank said as quoted by CNBC. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has pleaded with exporters to bring home earnings they currently keep offshore. Repatriated earnings could help Southeast Asia’s largest economy  fix its external imbalances and beef up its declining foreign reserves.
