Indonesia’s top diplomat is employing the country’s trademark “shuttle diplomacy” in an effort to muster a concordant ASEAN response to Myanmar’s post-coup political crisis, as concerns mount over public safety in the country amid heavy-handed crackdowns. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi shared the plan while hosting Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó at an official meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday. In addition to bilateral issues, the ministers discussed several international issues of shared concern, including the situation unfolding in Myanmar after its popularly elected government was ousted in a military coup on Feb. 1.
