Indonesia’s main opposition party on Wednesday, endorsed Prabowo Subianto as its presidential candidate in next year’s election, potentially setting the stage for a repeat of the 2014 contest between the retired general and President Joko Widodo. Prabowo said he was ready to run for president in 2019, in a speech at his residence in Hambalang, West Java, but added that his presidential bid was dependent on support from other parties. Last month, he quoted a novel by Peter W. Singer, Ghost Fleet, saying that without the right leadership Indonesia would no longer exist 2030. Presiden Joko Widodo later gave fiery speech in front of thousands of his volunteers, hitting back at several criticisms recently fired against him and his administration, including the prophecy.
