A mayor in the province of South Kalimantan died during treatment for coronavirus infection on Monday, becoming the third regional leader in Indonesia to have succumbed to the highly contagious disease. Banjarbaru Mayor Nadjmi Adhani died at the Ulin Municipal Hospital in the provincial capital of Banjarmasin where he was undergoing treatment for two weeks. South Kalimantan is among the worst hit by the outbreak in Indonesia. It ranks sixth of the provinces with the most confirmed cases of coronavirus, with more than 6,700 cases overall, including 307 deaths as of Monday. Nadjmi is the country’s third regional leader who has died from coronavirus-related diseases.
