The wind power plant that was inaugurated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Sidrap regency, South Sulawesi, on Monday has a generation capacity of only 75 megawatts — rather negligible compared to the 35,000 MW capacity the government plans to build between 2015 and 2019. But the US$150 million plant really stands out as a great, confidence-building milestone in the development of wind energy in the world’s largest archipelagic country, which has a vast potential for offshore wind power.
