Facebook has blacklisted a group of Myanmar Buddhist hardliners including monks notorious for bilious hate speech against Rohingya Muslims, the company said on Thursday, as it scrambles to show that it is tackling inflammatory content. Myanmar’s Buddhist nationalist groups, which include the 969 Movement and the Ma Ba Tha, have aggressively promoted a nationalism that is exclusively Buddhist on Facebook. They have fought for policies like the “Protection of Race and Religion” laws that limit the rights of ethnic and religious minorities and women, according to Asia Sentinel. Myanmar’s military, fresh off a bloody campaign that drove most of the country’s Muslim Rohingya minority into neighboring Bangladesh, has launched a new offensive against the armed forces of an ethnic group along the northern border with China, the Wall Street Journal reported.
