President Rodrigo Duterte created an inter-agency task force that would “integrate, harmonize and coordinate” efforts toward federalism and constitutional reforms, PhilStar Global reports. The task force will be chaired by the Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Eduardo Año. Rappler reported that the proposed federal constitution in the House of Representatives puts the Senate President – not Vice President Leni Robredo – as next in line should Duterte is unable to preside over the country’s transition to the new system of government. Meanwhile, opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has warned that Duterte’s continued push for a change in the 1987 Constitution could lead to more power abuse, oppression and further societal division.
