Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday revealed what he said was a plot to unseat him hatched by the opposition, Maoist rebels and a group of former soldiers who had mounted failed coups in the past, Reuters reports. The statement came after the head of the armed forces warned soldiers not to take sides in the president’s standoff with one of his most prominent critics, ex-soldier Senator Atonio Trillanes. FOX News reported on Monday that the largest group of lawyers in the Philippines asked the country’s courts Monday to resist “creeping incursions” on its independence and warned of judicial “chaos” after the president voided an amnesty granted to an opposition senator and ordered his arrest.
