A Cambodian court on Thursday, February 1, rejected a plea for bail by detained opposition leader Kem Sokha, he is the head of the now dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). Kem Sokha was arrested on September 3 amid a crackdown on critics of authoritarian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The CNRP was dissolved by Cambodia’s Supreme Court in November at the request of the government. Following his arrest last year on charges of seeking to overthrow the government, this was the first time that Sokha had been brought to the court for a hearing.
