Nuon Chea, the Khmer Rouge’s “Brother Number Two” died in hospital on August 4 at the age of 93. He had been being found guilty by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) of genocide and crimes against humanity and handed a life sentence. He was imprisoned at the ECCC detention facility. He had faced trial with Khieu Samphan, the Khmer Rouge’s head of state, who was also found guilty and given life in prison.
