An ultra-nationalist monk – once dubbed the “Buddhist Bin Laden” — on Sunday condemned the international community for their calls to bring Myanmar’s generals to justice over the Rohingya crisis, Agence-France Presse reports. The Buddhist monk, Wirathu, has for years used his social media perch to disseminate anti-Muslim hate speech, jingoistic sermons and virulent rumors about the stateless Rohingya minority, according to TIME. He was banned from posting on Facebook in February. Wirathu has repeatedly said that his anti-Muslim rhetoric had nothing to do with violence in the western state of Rakhine, as he emerged from a one-year preaching ban. Nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since insurgents attacked police and army posts on Aug.
