Nearly 500,000 workers have lost their jobs, stopped working temporarily or worked on and off since late April when the fourth wave of Covid-19 hit Vietnam.

Nearly 9,500 employees in 35 cities and provinces have contracted Covid-19, accounting for over 31 percent of total infections, Nguyen Dinh Khang, chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said Wednesday. The confederation has provided urgent assistance worth VND113 billion ($4.9 million) to over 193,000 employees.
