Frequent and increased Chinese military drills pose an “enormous threat” to Taiwan’s security, Taipei warned on Tuesday in an annual defence review that starkly highlighted rising cross-strait tensions. China’s air force has carried out 16 rounds of exercises close to Taiwan in the last year or so, Taiwan’s defense ministry said on Tuesday, warning that China’s military threat was growing by the day. Previously, Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen pledged to bolster the island’s military but added it will not “seek war” amid tensions with its biggest rival China.
