ManilaTimes-Feb 8

The campaign period for candidates for president, vice president, senator and party-list organizations begins today, February 8. That means candidates for national positions will have to strictly comply with campaign rules set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), including removing posters and banners and other election materials that they have previously put up, said Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said Monday. Under the “Fair Elections Act,” Comelec will give violators three days to take down illegal election materials. Even owners of buses bearing illegal campaign posters can also be charged for “posting election propaganda outside of common poster areas, public places or private without owner consent is unlawful during campaign period,” said Jimenez. Comelec will also provide free live-streaming of e-rallies of national candidates every night on its official social media channel. Groups planning motorcades and caravans must have a permit from the local government units (LGUs). Physical campaigning would vary from place to place, depending on the Covid-19 alert level set by Comelec.
