Indonesian terrorist organisations’ muted response to Hamas’ operation on 7 October 2024 compared to their quick endorsements of the Islamic State’s declaration of a caliphate in 2014 is due to logistical difficulties and shifting strategic priorities. Despite being largely supportive of Hamas, Indonesian terrorist groups, like Jemaah Ansharut Daulah and Jemaah Islamiyah, have struggled with heavy arrests by Indonesia’s counter-terrorism unit and a lack of resources. This has prevented them from providing substantial aid or adjusting their operational objectives to support Hamas’ cause against Israel.
