In an interview with a Thai TV station, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said his country would go ahead with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), ending months of speculation on Malaysia’s position under the new government on the trade negotiation that involves 11 nations. The future of the trade negotiation has been uncertain after the US, under President Donald Trump, pulled out last year. In April, however, he said he would rejoin the CPTPP if the deal was “substantially better”. Indonesia is not interested in joining the CPTPP trade pact without U.S. participation, said the country’s minister for national development planning, Bambang Brodjonegoro.
