One of the Indonesian vice presidential candidates, Sandiaga Uno, responded casually on Saturday to charges that he paid Rp 1 trillion to two political parties in exchange for political support in his bid to become Prabowo Subianto’s running mate. The accusation, lodged by Democratic Party deputy secretary general Andi Arief, was fiercely denied by members of Prabowo’s political coalition: the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). Despite the dramatic falling out between the Democrats and Prabowo, the party, which is led by former Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has decided to support Prabowo’s presidential bid.
