Thailand’s police are investigating a viral hip-hop video condemning the military junta as the generals begin to relax their grip ahead of a possible general election on February 24, Asean Economist reports. The country’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) is due to decide whether to take action under the Computer Crime Act. Former deputy prime minister Chaturon Chaisang has warned against arresting the rap group that released the anti-coup song. Chaturon, a leading member of the Pheu Thai Party, said if the group was arrested, it would backfire against the government. The generals that toppled Thailand’s democratic government in 2014 have kept a tight lid on dissent but creative criticism through music and arts has been harder to control, even if its impact on political life has so far been minimal, according to Channel News Asia.
