Embattled leader Aung San Suu Kyi vowed Monday to increase transparency over her government’s handling of the Rohingya crisis while pitching for foreign investment in Myanmar ahead of a regional summit in Tokyo, Agence-France Presse reports. In a latest backlash against her inaction against the atrocities affecting the Rohingyas, Canada stripped Suu Kyi of her honorary citizenship last week following a unanimous vote by members of the country’s House of Commons. Anthony Ware, a senior lecturer at Deakin University, argues in an op-ed published by Quartz that the Myanmar government has no power to hold the military accountable for actions against the Rohingya. Suu Kyi is therefore in a very weak position.
