Myanmar’s embattled leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, called for national unity Thursday and said she has created a committee that will co-ordinate all international and local assistance in violence-struck Rakhine state. After a prolonged period of silence on the prosecution of the Rohingyas, Suu Kyi finally came forward on Sept. 19 saying that she did not fear international scrutiny and was committed to a sustainable solution to the conflict. UN chief has called Myanmar’s Rohingya crisis ‘catastrophic’ as Security Council condemned violence. Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu issued heartfelt letter last month to Suu Kyi, who is fellow peace prize winner, calling for her to speak up for Rohingya in Myanmar.
