Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning Bambang Brodjonegoro has said a government study to relocate the capital from Jakarta to other cities is nearly complete and will be submitted to President Joko Widodo by the end of December. The minister previously stated that the new capital will have to be off the island of Java, to alleviate overcrowding. It would most likely be somewhere on the less populated island of Borneo also known as Kalimantan.  Every few years or so Palangkaraya, the capital city of Central Kalimantan province, is mooted as a replacement for the flood-prone, congested and dysfunctional capital that is Jakarta.
