Sources have informed Malaysia’s English daily the New Straits Times that Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, would soon face up to 20 criminal charges, mostly linked to money laundering activities. The Wall Street Journal, one of the first media to blow the whistle on the political scandal involving Najib and 1Malaysia Development Berhad, reported that Rosmah is seen as having played a central role in the alleged misappropriation from the sovereign investment fund with help from fugitive billionaire Jho Low. In May, Malaysian police raided three apartments in a posh Kuala Lumpur condominium owned by Najib’s family, carting away 284 boxes containing luxury handbags and 72 bags filled with jewellery, cash of various denominations, watches and other valuables.
