Myanmar’s army chief on Monday warned against foreign interference as world leaders gather at the United Nations to find ways to hold the country’s powerful generals accountable for atrocities against Rohingya Muslims last year, Reuters reports. The UN’s fact finding mission published a 440-page report last week detailing atrocities against the Rohingyas by Myanmar’s military and calling for responsible generals to be brought to justice. In response to the report, Canadian legislators unanimously voted to declare crimes committed by the Myanmar military to be genocide. More than 700,000 Rohingya people have forced to flee to neighboring Bangladesh, where they now live in cramped refugee camps.
