The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, hours after the former deputy prime minister was summoned for questioning, Free Malaysia Today reports. Zahid is being investigated over alleged abuse of funds linked to his family-run foundation, Yayasan Akal Budi. Hamidi, who currently leads United Malays National Organization, has refused to ask for bail, according to the party’s Supreme Council member Lokman Nor Adam. The MACC has frozen two bank accounts belonging to UMNO, which according to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was one of the political parties that received illegal funds from state-owned 1 Malaysia Development Berhad.
