Malaysia’s Attorney General Tommy Thomas had no hand in the decision to withdraw the corruption charges against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and a businesswoman as he had recused himself from the case from all deliberations regarding the case, The Star Online reports. The clarification, which came from the prosecutor’s office, came as civil society groups demand Thomas to resign in order to restore public trust in the justice system. The office should provide “cogent explanation” for its decision to drop the case as the Malaysian people had voted for the Pakatan Harapan government with the hope for the reinstatement of an independent judicial system, writes Kua Kia Song for Free Malaysia Today.
