Malaysia Tuesday retreated from a previous move to ease charges that local companies pay for employing foreigners, saying employers will have to solely bear the levy as is the current practice, Nikkei Asian Review reports. On Monday, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said employers in Malaysia will only have to pay 20 percent of the annual RM10,000 levy for each skilled foreign worker who has been employed for more than 10 years. Malaysia’s Immigration officers launched a major crackdown on illegal immigrants on August 31, the first under the Pakatan Harapan government, as the amnesty program, which enables illegal immigrants to pay a RM300 fine, ended a day before.
