Greenpeace activists on Tuesday scaled storage tanks at an Indonesian palm oil refinery along with a popular rock band which played pro-environment songs, protesting against a commodity found in everything from soap to biscuits, Agence-France Prese reports. The protest came less than two weeks after the environmental group released a report saying that 25 palm oil producing groups it had investigated destroyed more than 130,000 hectares of natural forest in Indonesia since 2015. The Indonesian government is aware of the environmental devastation from palm oil culture. On September 19, Indonesian President Joko Widodo signed a moratorium on new licenses for oil palm plantations. The presidential instruction will remain in place for no more than three years, according to the policy document, seen by Mongabay.
