Malaysian counter-terrorism police have arrested seven terror suspects, including a member of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) involved in three serial kidnappings in the southern Philippines and Sabah, Channel News Asia confirmed on Monday, quoting Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun. Meanwhile, Seventeen of the 129 criminals from the southern Thailand province of Narathiwat reportedly hiding in Malaysia are wanted by the Thai authorities for security-related offences, according to The New Straits Times. A research firm has warned of a growing trend in support and tolerance for terrorist activities despite the findings from a recent survey that Muslims in Malaysia report low tendencies for direct participation in violent extremism.
