In an interview with Channel News Asia, Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said Malaysia should not cancel the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, arguing that it would benefit Johor’s economy. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has appeared to be backtracking from his previous statements by saying that the railway project could still materialize albeit later than originally planned, Malay Mail reports. He also confirms that Malaysian officials will meet with Singapore counterparts to discuss the status of the project and all the costs involved. Malaysia’s Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the RM110 billion (S$37 billion) price tag estimate for the railway project includes hidden costs not revealed by the previous administration.
