Indonesia’s government as well its palm oil producers have expressed concern that Norway may have set a precedent by becoming the first country in the world to exclude biofuels derived from deforestation, The Straits Times reports. Palm oil prices reached three-year low last month on the back of lower crude oil prices and weak demand outlook for the commodity. In response, Indonesia expects to remove a levy on palm oil as low prices hit farmers’ income. Indonesia has also demanded all fuel retailers to increase bio-content mix in diesel fuel from 10 per cent to 20 per cent. Meanwhile, Malaysia will increase the minimum bio-content mix to 10 per cent from 7 per cent starting on Dec 1.
