A prominent Philippines lawmaker and critic of President Rodrigo Duterte who has been holed up in the country’s senate building has left accompanied by police officers after an arrest warrant was ordered by a Manila court, CNN reports. Antonio Trillanes, who is a former naval officer, is the second opposition senator to be jailed by the Duterte government. In February last year, the Philippine police arrested Duterte’s longtime critic Sen. Leila De Lima on drug-related charges soon after she opened an investigation into the president’s alleged use of death squads to kill drug suspects. Trillanes’ incarceration would likely put a spotlight on the questionable, and some say unconstitutional, actions of the President and his men, according to Rappler.
