Malcolm Turnbull has warned, after meeting Indonesian President Joko Widodo, that relocating Australia’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem “would be met with a very negative reaction in Indonesia” and that Australia should consider its interests in the region before doing so, The Australian reports. When Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was open to moving Australia’s embassy, Indonesia hit back on the announcement and reaffirmed its position on the two-state solution, saying it was a basic principle that must be upheld in order to achieve lasting peace between Palestine and Israel. Indonesia is even considering putting its trade deal with Australia on hold. The deal is slated to be signed before the end of the year.
