Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said China is committed to a peaceful settlement of bilateral disputes with ASEAN nations over the South China Sea, despite differing views. Li made the remarks after holding talks with President Joko Widodo at Istana Bogor in West Java. Li’s visit to Indonesia, his first overseas trip since the new cabinet took office in March, is expected to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries under the Belt and Road initiative, and to give a boost to China’s overall relations with Southeast Asian countries. Li’s visit to Indonesia comes as this year marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership and the 15th anniversary of the strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
