Australia has imposed sanctions and travel bans on five Myanmar military generals accused of leading last year’s violent crackdown on the country’s Rohingya, ABC reports. Previously, Amnesty International urged Australia to immediately stop its $300,000 military assistance program with Myanmar and help build a case for international prosecution against soldiers responsible for crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, Australia is also promising thousands of dollars to Rohingya refugees who agree to return to Myanmar. Asylum seekers in the Australian-run detention center on Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island, have been pressured by officials to return to their home countries, even if they face violence, according to The Guardian.
