The security firm Volexity reported on Monday that it had uncovered a massive campaign of digital surveillance and web-based attacks directed at ASEAN and other civil society groups in Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries, including ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. In May, cybersecurity company FireEye reported that the group, which it calls APT32 and is also known as OceanLotus, was actively targeting foreign multinationals and dissidents in Vietnam. FireEye said at the time the group’s activity was “of interest to the nation of Vietnam”. With the huge increase in internet use, Southeast Asia is more prone to attacks from outside sources, writes Pauk Baka for the Diplomat. Find Veloxity’s full report here.
