Malaysia’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president-elect Anwar Ibrahim will contest for a seat in the country’s parliament, his party announced on Wednesday, as a party MP resigned to make way for the senior leader just months after their coalition won a shock May general election, Business Times reports. PKR lawmaker Abdullah Sani has accused Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and the head of Malaysia’s Council of Eminent Person, Daim Zainuddin, of staging a conspiracy to prevent Anwar from becoming minister. Mahathir denied such accusation, urging Sani to back his statement with proof. Before the 14th general elections, Pakatan Harapan coalition leaders had agreed that Mahathir would be made the prime minister and that Anwar would take over in two years.
