A court in Vietnam has jailed a Facebook user for 2-1/2 years over anti-government comments he posted on the social media website, police said on Thursday, as the Southeast Asian country continues its crackdown on dissent, Reuters reports. Thursday’s decision comes days after Vietnam jailed another Facebook user for two years and three months on the same charges. In June, Vietnam approved a restrictive cyber security law that has the power to force Google, Facebook and other tech companies to store their data in-country, a move that would, according to activists, allow communist authorities to access private data, spy on users and erode the limited freedoms of speech enjoyed by citizens.
