The U.S. Justice Department is planning to announce multiple criminal charges related to a multibillion-dollar Malaysian sovereign-wealth fund scandal, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, including against two former Goldman Sachs bankers and Malaysian financier Jho Low. The latter, who is currently a fugitive, contacted the top adviser to Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Daim Zaimuddin, last week to seek immunity, Astro Awani reported. In August, Malaysian authorities charged Low and his father Hock Peng in absentia with money laundering, later asking the International Criminal Police Organization to help track him down. He is said to be in hiding in China.
