Thailand is a new dumping ground for scrap electronics from around the world, say police and environmentalists, the latest country to feel the impact of China’s crackdown on imports of high-tech trash. Indonesia shares a similar problem. The 2015 global e-waste report discovered that the country’s mountain of electronic waste topped the list in Southeast Asia with 812 kilotons, followed by Vietnam with 451 kilotons and Malaysia with 243 kilotons. A growing number of gadgets — and more people who can afford to buy them — has led to a 63 percent increase in electronic waste in Asia, according to a study from the United Nations University. And that’s only in the past five years.
