A Thai criminal court has issued a second arrest warrant for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who fled the country weeks before she was sentenced to jail in absentia. Yingluck fled abroad in August fearing that the military government, set up after the 2014 coup, would seek a harsh sentence. It remains unclear how she left the country. Yingluck was sentenced to five years in prison on Sept. 27 for mishandling a rice subsidy scheme that allegedly cost Thailand at least US$8 billion.
