Myanmar de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has defended her country against criticism of last week’s conviction of two Reuters journalists on charges of violating the country’s colonial-era Official Secrets Act, VOA News reports. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Vietnam on Thursday, she admitted that her government could have better handled the situation in Rakhine state that led to the forced displacement of more than 700,000 Rohingya Muslims. CNN reported Thursday that United Nations teams have been granted access to Myanmar’s Rakhine State to assess dozens of villages and townships that housed Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution last year.
