Indonesia’s resort islands of Bali and Lombok were rocked by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake on Sunday, triggering panic among holidaymakers and residents. No official information about possible casualties was available more than two hours after the quake, which struck in the early evening after sunset, Reuters reports. The earthquake struck a week after another quake hit the island killing at least 16 people. Lombok is a popular tourist site for its beaches and hiking trails. Southeast Asia is expected to see lower inflows of tourists in the coming months after a series of unwanted natural events that led to fatalities. Thailand’s Phuket Island hit particularly hard by the capsizing of tour boats in early July that killed 47 Chinese tourists. At least 7,300 hotel reservations on the island had been canceled through mid-July, according to Nikkei Asian Review.
