As the upcoming 2022 elections draws near, the Catholic Church reiterated its strong objection against political dynasties, saying that it “does not promote good governance.” Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo on Thursday called on the voters to be discerning, saying that the best solution in dismantling political dynasties lies in the hands of the voters. “What we can do as voters is be discerning. When we know that the candidates are relatives, son, daughter, spouse of the incumbent, let us not vote for them,” Pabillo told Radio Veritas. According to Pabillo, political dynasties, both at the local and national levels, weaken the system of checks and balances in the government. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) also reminded the faithful of their “moral obligation” come election day by rejecting the “notoriously corrupt” and to put an end to political dynasties.
