Malaysia has criticized the federal opposition alliance’s meeting with senior EU ambassadors last week and its call for foreign intervention in the forthcoming general elections. Malaysian foreign minister Anifah Aman slammed the meeting in a statement on Sunday, saying that issues raised at the meeting affected the country’s dignity and sovereignty. She said the meeting could also affect Malaysia’s efforts to defend the nation’s palm oil industry after the EU’s decision to back a ban on using palm oil to make biofuels. The two-hour meeting was held at the residence of the head of the EU delegation to Malaysia, Maria Castillo Fernández, according to the Facebook account of Abdul Kadir Jasin, a supreme council member of Tun Dr Mahathir’s political party.
