Malaysia has emerged as one of the most progressive nations across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms of cybersecurity strategy, according to a new research commissioned by Cisco. ASEAN countries are at risk in a number of ways: limited threat intelligence sharing, diverging national priorities, increasing interconnectedness and rapid technological evolution. These factors could lead to the top 1000 ASEAN companies losing $750 billion in market capitalization, the report claims. In 2017, Singapore saw three major cyberattacks namely the MINDEF Cyber Breach in February, WannaCry Ransomware in May – which spread throughout the region like wildfire– and Petya Ransomware in June.
