Indonesia is investigating reports from Islamic State supporters that Bahrumsyah, the most senior Southeast Asian commander of the militant group from Indonesia was killed by U.S. air strikes in eastern Syria last week, counter-terrorism officials said. Online messages from IS propagandists viewed by Reuters say he died after U.S. air strikes hit Hajin, north of the Syrian city of Abu Kamal, last Tuesday. The Pentagon said it could not confirm social media reports of his death but acknowledged that U.S.-led coalition fighter jets had bombed the area where he was allegedly killed last week. Bahrumsyah has been reported dead at least once before. In March, Al-Mashdar News reported that Bahrumsyah died in a botched suicide attack on a Syrian Arab Army unit in Palmyra.
