Malaysia’s former Youth and Sports Minister KhairyJamaluddin on Tuesday said he was planning to “take a short break” from political posts, Channel News Asia reports. Khairy was defeated by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last Saturday after contesting the post of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) president. Khairy hopes his successor,Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will not be blamed if Malaysia fails to deliver at next month’s Asian Games in Indonesia. Instead, Khairy, who was present during the handing over of duty ceremony to Syed Saddiq at the ministry, said he will take responsibility for the contingent’s performance at the games on Aug 18 to Sept 2, the New Straits Times reports. Syed Saddiq, a 25-year-old law graduate who was a prominent debater and currently youth chief of Mahathir’s party, is the youngest-ever to be appointed to the Malaysian cabinet.
