Forest fires in Indonesia have been under control this year. The peak of the dry season in September has passed without any major increase in the number of hot spots, according to statistics by Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) released on Wednesday. The report came two months after five provinces had declared emergencies because of forest fires, with the number of hotspots steadily increasing in many areas over the past week. Land and forest fires have broken out in pockets of the archipelago country since mid-July, with the majority of fire-linked hotspots detected in the provinces of West Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara and Aceh.
