During his first visit to Singapore after released from prison in May, Malaysia’s former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim told a forum on Sunday that he was in no rush to become the next prime minister, citing the need for political stability, Channel News Asia reports. Amid allegations about an attempt to block Anwar, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad confirmed on Saturday that he was not reneging on the promise that Anwar, the de facto leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), would become his successor. His statement came after Anwar had announced his plan to contest the Port Dickson parliamentary seat in the state of Negeri Sembilan, a move that analysts said would pave the way for him to take over from Mahathir.
